Hyatt Hotels Corporation is implementing its ESG strategy through the Hyatt World of Care Program

Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which has always operated with the core concept of "care", has always regarded ESG as one of the core issues of concern. Since 2020, Hyatt Hotels Corporation has officially launched the "World of Care" program, which is deeply rooted in all aspects of the business and is Hyatt's comprehensive plan to promote care for the planet, care for people and corporate responsibility on a global scale. Hyatt hotels and group employees work together to implement ESG strategies through this platform.


Environmental protection and sustainable development

The Group is committed to promoting environmental action, actively addressing climate change, and enhancing water conservation. Actions taken include retrofitting lighting and water installations, upgrading aging heating and cooling equipment, as well as kitchen and laundry equipment, installing efficient air treatment systems, adopting alternative water sources or water recycling, utilizing renewable energy sources, implementing building automation and energy optimization systems, among others.


In order to save resources, Grand Hyatt Chengdu Qunguang has implemented an energy-saving renovation project, and Hyatt Place Shanghai New Hongqiao has also carried out an energy-saving optimization project for the central air conditioning system. The energy saving renovation project of Grand Hyatt Chengdu Qunguang implemented waste heat recovery in the hotel, installed more than 40 waste heat recovery equipment in the hotel water pump room, air conditioning room, power distribution room, laundry room, ice machine room and other waste heat space, installed a set of central air conditioning energy-saving system, and carried out low-nitrogen combustion transformation of the hotel's existing hot water boiler room combustion machine. The waste heat generated by the operation of the hotel's mechanical and electrical equipment is used to heat the hotel's domestic water, reduce the use of hot water boilers, and output cold air, and cool the room where the equipment is located (the hotel's water pump room, air conditioning room, power distribution room, laundry room, ice machine room, etc.), reduce the use of air conditioning, so as to achieve the transformation goal of energy saving and emission reduction.



Hyatt Place Shanghai New Hongqiao uses artificial intelligence algorithms to optimize the existing air conditioning control system. Without extensive on-site construction, the intelligent gateway server can be connected to the existing control system network to complete the link between artificial intelligence and the existing control system. After the system learns the field data for a period of time, the strategy of the existing air conditioning operation system will be optimized by the algorithm, and the energy consumption of the hotel will be continuously reduced while ensuring the existing indoor temperature and humidity conditions.


The green and energy-saving projects at Hyatt Regency Beijing and Hyatt Place Beijing have greatly reduced energy consumption and helped the Group achieve its energy saving and emission reduction goals more efficiently.


At the same time, Hyatt Hotels attaches great importance to conserving resources and reducing waste generation. Its hotels have taken corresponding measures in environmental protection, preventing food waste, reducing plastic products and other aspects.


Park Hyatt Shenzhen employs a portable composting system to collect and dispose of kitchen and restaurant waste, making it easier for staff to store food scraps. The food waste is naturally broken down in the system and goes through a composting process, with the final mature compost being used in the herb garden. The hotel regularly harvests and uses it for cooking.


To reduce food waste, Hyatt Regency Beijing Wangjing's team of culinary and catering experts designed the menu, with chefs determining portions based on how many people have booked and expected to cover. When restocking, the chef observes and modifies in small batches to reduce food waste while providing the same quality dishes to guests. With zero waste in mind, chefs make the best use of raw materials when preparing soups and sauces. At the same time, in terms of reducing plastic products, Hyatt Regency Beijing Wangjing has worked with a waste management company to identify the main plastic products that are discarded every day, including toothbrushes, razors, hair combs, and delivery spoons, forks, and utensils. The hotel's Green Committee worked with the purchasing department to try out different products, and finally found a local supplier in Beijing to make daily consumables using recycled wood materials. While reducing the consumption of a large number of disposable daily necessities every year, it also strongly supports local enterprises and creates more employment opportunities for local suppliers. In terms of use, the hotel also encourages guests to take the exquisite wooden tableware home and continue to use it, practicing the "3R" concept, that is, Reduce use, Re-use and Recycle.


In addition, Hyatt Regency Shanghai Wujiaochang, Grand Hyatt Beijing, Hyatt Place Sanya Center and Hyatt Regency Qingdao have all made changes in terms of consumables. For example, in terms of restaurants, the hotel uses environmentally friendly materials to replace all disposable items, such as straws, stirring sticks, plastic paper cups, packaging boxes, spoons, forks and other disposable items. And replace all takeout bags with paper bags. In terms of rooms, the hotel has replaced all disposable items such as toothbrushes, combs and packaging bags with biodegradable materials, and replaced small bottles in bathroom supplies with large bottles to reduce the use of plastic. All garbage bags in public areas are made of biodegradable materials, etc.
